Online Counselling for Expats
& International Professionals

Helping you navigate the emotional
complexities of life abroad

In English and German · Across Europe and Asia

David Jowanka, MSc Psychology

The Psychological Impact
of Living Between Cultures

Living abroad can be enriching, yet emotionally complex. Relocation, identity shifts, relationship strain, career pressure, and cultural transitions can accumulate over time, leading to anxiety, disconnection, self-doubt, or burnout.

Life between cultures is not only about adapting to a new environment. It can affect your sense of identity, belonging, relationships, and what it means to feel at home.

I offer online counselling in English and German for expats and international professionals across Europe and Asia. Drawing on years of experience supporting internationally mobile adults, I provide a steady, supportive space to explore what is affecting your wellbeing, reconnect with what matters, and develop a way forward that fits your life.

My approach integrates evidence-based cognitive behavioural and solution-focused methods, complemented by hypnotherapy-informed techniques where appropriate.

  • Relocation stress and cultural adjustment

  • Identity shifts & life transitions

  • Career pressure, high-performance stress & burnout

Why Empower Psychology?

International understanding

Having lived and worked internationally myself, I understand that relocation involves much more than adapting to a new place. Questions of identity, belonging, relationships, culture, and home can become part of everyday life.

Practical, evidence-based counselling

Counselling should offer space for reflection while also helping you create change. My approach combines evidence-based psychological methods with practical strategies tailored to your circumstances and goals.

Counselling shaped around you

There is no single expat experience and no one-size-fits-all approach to counselling. Our work is shaped around your experiences, strengths, challenges, and what you want to change.
